Beachfront Home Kitchen
Design : Episode KDE-1206 -- More
Projects »
Host Joan Kohn visits the
kitchen in the renovated shingle-style beach home
of Maureen Quill. Only feet from the shore, the
home was in serious disrepair when Quill bought
it. With the help of designer Olivia Sanderson,
the first-floor rooms were creatively reorganized
to accommodate a large L-shaped kitchen, eating
area and gathering room that are the center of the
family’s beach life.

 The L-shaped kitchen in
this renovated beach home was designed to
accommodate multiple cooks and a casual
lifestyle.

 The generous dining area,
full of windows, continues the cheerful red,
white and blue decorating scheme used throughout
the home.
|
- The bright, open kitchen and adjacent eating
and gathering areas are decorated in red, white
and blue, with whimsical collections and
beach-themed mementos. The look is informal and
personal.
- The kitchen has white walls, counters,
appliances and sinks. The beadboard cabinets and
handpainted backsplash tiles add color and
texture. Glass insets in the upper cabinets
lighten the feel of the wood cabinets, while a
natural pine floor anchors the room.
- Windows were added along the back of the
home to take advantage of ocean views.
- The large central island provides additional
storage and preparation area. The refrigerator
was located outside the work triangle to keep
traffic out of the work area.
